K9 Team

The Kootenai County Volunteer Search and Rescue K9 Team is comprised of six dedicated canines, each with 2 to 15 years of wilderness air scent rescue experience.

Our team is deployed within Kootenai County and also assists with mutual aid requests throughout North Idaho and Western Montana. We welcome both experienced certified wilderness K9s and those interested in becoming K9 handlers.

To join the K9 Team, all prospective handlers must first become members of the Kootenai County Search and Rescue. From our team, we select novice navigators and prospective K9 handlers. Maintaining a mission-ready search dog requires a significant time commitment of approximately 20 hours of training per month.

If you are interested in observing a training session or learning more, please contact us through the email provided on our website.
